The wide-ranging project focused on modernising key areas of the racecourse to improve facilities for jockeys, syndicate owners, and media personnel, while enhancing the experience for visitors and participants alike. With the horse racing season fast approaching, we completed the project to a tight deadline to ensure the racecourse was ready to welcome guests once again.

One major element of the project was the refurbishment of the ground floor of the Portman Stand. We reconfigured the internal layout to create a range of new specialist facilities, including new female jockey changing rooms, a warm-up room, a catering facility, a modern weighing room, a media room, and a communications room. New medical treatment rooms were also installed to improve on-site welfare and emergency response capabilities. Another important addition was the creation of a brand-new Owners Syndicate Suite, providing a comfortable, high-quality space where syndicate owners – groups of individuals who collectively own a racehorse – could meet, socialise, and enjoy the excitement of race days in an exclusive setting.
Carrying out a large-scale renovation project across an operational racecourse required careful planning and close coordination between trades to meet the fixed racing season deadline. We managed all aspects of the programme with precision, working flexibly around existing site operations and phasing works to minimise disruption. Despite the complexity and challenging timeframe, the full refurbishment was delivered on time and to a high standard. The upgraded facilities have significantly enhanced the racecourse’s offering, helping Taunton Racecourse maintain its standing as a key venue in the South West racing calendar and providing a much-improved experience for competitors, owners, staff, and visitors alike.
